Nenagh College is pleased to announce our Open Night on Wednesday 20th January 2016. We would like to invite all parents and guardians of prospective students to attend. Our Principal’s address will begin at 7.30 pm. Our key note speaker is Mr. Michael Fennelly, former Hurler of the Year and Lecturer in LIT (Thurles).

Nenagh College is North Tipperary’s fastest growing school. Last year we celebrated 80 years of service to the community. Our state of the art facilities, supervised after school study and lunch time activities are some of the services we can offer to new students. We are able to cater for a wide range of subjects including Coding and Computer Science.

Three students who completed their Leaving Certificate examinations in June 2015 and are currently studying in colleges in Limerick and Dublin, received bursaries from Nenagh Credit Union.

Students in Nenagh College organised and took part in a Gratitude Event on Thursday 17th December – it was organised by the 5th year Leaving Certificate Applied class and Ms O Keeffe’s Transition Year Social Education class. The event marked the end of 2015 and the beginning of a new year with positive hopes and intentions.  It was a time to reflect on the ordinary greatness in our lives and to give thanks.  Students and teachers were invited to spend time reflecting on all that is we have.  It was a collaborative approach from many different departments in the school including music, art, religion and social education, well done to all who contributed to an excellent time of reflection and thanks.

 

Proud 2^nd Year Nenagh College art students displayed an up-cycled Christmas tree at St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival.  Their winning entry had hundreds of old computer keys mosaiced with donated tiles.  Tinfoil from lunch wrappers was made into decorations and an old patio table top was used creatively. Well done to all for the hard work and effort involved.  Ms Beirne (Art Teacher) received the award on behalf of the students and would like to thank Mr. O’Meara, Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Johnson for all their help.

LCA 5^th year students showcased their hospitality skills on Friday 18^th December when they ran the “LCA Café” and held a breakfast morning for staff.  A professional menu was presented to all diners, orders taken and food was skilfully prepared, cooked and presented whilst Christmas music created a very festive atmosphere.  All funds raised are to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul.  Well done to all involved.

Nenagh College was delighted to host our annual December Intercultural Day Festival. With stalls representing both the food and culture from many different countries all over the world, it was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience different cultures and values that may have been unfamiliar to them. With stalls from Ireland, Romania, Italy, America, India and China to name a few, Nenagh College students were treated to a banquet of multicultural dishes.

With performances such as Irish Dancing, Irish Traditional Music, bongo playing as well as a raffle, it was a tremendously enjoyable experience had by all. Special thanks must be given to our PLC students, second level students and teachers who organised the 2015 Intercultural Day Festival. All proceeds were in aid of St. Vincent de Paul.

 

Nenagh College leaving cert engineering class on a recent visit to LIT Engineering week. Congratulations to Killian Cullagh who was presented with an Electronic Digital Vernier Callipers by Dr John Walsh Lecturer of Engineering for his Knowledge in the area of Rapid Prototyping

Leanne Ryan, a second year student at Nenagh College and a native of Templederry was recently awarded a Bronze medal following her participation in the World Raquetball championships in The Dominican Republic. Leanne trained almost seven days a week in the months leading up to the championships. As part of the national squad her training schedule took her to all four corners of Ireland for training in stamina, fitness and court play. Leanne continued to play with Templederry throughout this time and committed to school and club camóige teams. After a long Journey to the Dominican Republic via Paris Leanne had a few days to acclimatise to the very different weather conditions with the searing heat and different court and ball conditions. Together with her playing partner, Mary Ellen Phelan, Leanne faced the challenge of playing Canada, Ecuador, Mexico, USA and the Dominican Republic over five days. When all the points accrued from these encounters were totalled the girls finished in a very creditable 3^rd place in the world, a magnificent achievement given the climatic conditions which were not such an obstacle for their opponents.The staff and students of Nenagh College acknowledged Leanne’s wonderful achievement at a specially convened school assembly upon her return.

 

A new Parent Council has been formed in Nenagh College following a very well attended and successful Annual General Meeting.

Ms. Rose Tully, a founder member of NPCpp (National Parent Council, Post primary) and former North Tipperary VEC member was the key note speaker. She shared her experience of Parent Council membership with the attendance has continued her work with the committee in an advisory capacity developing a new constitution for the organisation.  Rose is pictured with the Principal,Mr. Kennedy and Deputy Principal, Ms. Ann Melly.
