Nenagh College female STEM students were delighted and privileged to be selected to participate in the I Wish Showcase event in the RDS on Thursday 8th February. This event aims to empower girls to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
Representing us on the day were Annabel Galvin, Emma Smyth, Fayth Abbott-Muldowney, Gabriella Creed, Julia Placek, Lily O’Brien, Tuireann O’Brien, Weronika Walerowiscz, Magdalena Chanas and Amy Fogarty with their teacher Ms O’Malley (Coding, Computer Science and Maths).
Speakers at the event came from diverse areas and included former president Mary Robinson, Irish science communicator Ciara Judge, head of Meta Ireland Anne O’Leary, global diversity leader Furkan Karayel, aeronautical engineer Dr Norah Patten, and Irish Olympian hockey player and biomedical engineer Katie Mullan. Companies participating included Deloitte, Dell, PepsiCo, Johnson and Johnson, Merck, Regeneron, Qualcomm and AWS.
All junior cycle students have the options of studying Coding, Design and Communication Graphics, Engineering, Materials Technology and Science. At senior cycle they have the options of Agricultural Science, Computer Science, Construction, Engineering and Graphic Design, as well as Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
