On St. Patrick’s Day 2016, three Transition Year students from Nenagh College travelled with their teacher Ms. Murphy to Shanghai to take part in this year’s Easter Camp in Shanghai University. During their two week trip, they enjoyed a varied and full programme of events including; Chinese language classes, lectures on Chinese economics and culture, calligraphy, Tai Chi, acrobatics show, visit to the cities of Suzhou & Hangzhou, river cruises, visit to the Ancient town Zhujiajiao, sight-seeing in Shanghai, dinner and cultural performance with Shanghai University students, entry to the Oriental Pearl TV tower and much more.
In Nenagh College First and Transition Year students have been studying Chinese language and culture throughout the year. The three students from Nenagh College were given the opportunity to attend the Shanghai Easter Camp through UCC Confucius Institute. The University in Cork has collaborated with Shanghai University since 2007. The aim of UCC Confucius Institute is to strengthen educational cooperation between China and Ireland, support and promote the development of Chinese language education, and increase mutual understanding between the peoples of China and Ireland.
The students and Ms. Murphy would like to extend their thanks to UCC Confucius Institute and to all involved in organising this wonderful experience.
