Today, everyone was up bright and early to hit the road for the Ancient Roman City of Pompeii. The city itself rests in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, a once active volcano. Its most famous eruption took place in the year 79 A.D., when it buried the city of Pompeii under a thick 6 metre carpet of volcanic ash. The city is one of Italy’s most visited attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our excellent tour guide Mauro brought us to Roman villas, public baths, an amphitheatre, shops, and many residential buildings. After some lunch in Pompeii, we travelled back to Rome where we visited the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain.
