A large crowd of students and parents gathered at Nenagh College on Sunday last, 16th January, for what was the first open day for parents since the beginning of the Coronavirus virus.
The socially distanced, Covid compliant event enabled prospective students, from all feeder primary schools, and their parents to view the school and meet the teachers at Nenagh College.
As well as a tour of the school’s impressive facilities the visitors were addressed by individual members of the school community, representing all the partners in the education enterprise at the college.
First year head and class director, Maire nà Chofaigh and Margaret Naughton, gave all assembled an in-depth outline of the school’s pastoral care provision and the supports available to the students to help in the transition to post primary school and beyond.
Secretary of the parent council, Siobhan Farrell, gave an overview of the parent experience of Nenagh College, while the very impressive Angela Boldescu shared her experience of being a first year student in the school.
Given the struggles of the last two years, Principal Damien Kennedy, was delighted to be able to welcome parents and prospective students back to Nenagh College. He hoped that this would be the beginning of the return to normal life in the school and beyond. Throughout his address Mr. Kennedy covered areas such as the curriculum provision and pastoral care support structure. He also gave the visiting parents and pupils a preview of the future in Nenagh College including two capital building projects, a dedicated Transition Year Centre, which is nearing completion and a major Capital Works programme which will incorporate a special centre, specialist and general classrooms. He also spoke of plans to have every student using their own laptop devices for teaching and learning, within three years.
After a tour of the school and refreshments a significant number of parents completed the enrolment process.
Nenagh College will accept applications for the last remaining places in first year up to January 31st. Completed forms can be returned to the school office.
The school will be open from 2.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. on Friday 21st January also, for parents who wish to return enrolment forms.
